Larson • King welcomes Leyla Bari as our 2018 Summer Associate. Leyla is a 2020 J.D. candidate at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where she is on the Jessup International Moot Court Team, and was elected by her peers to serve as both the Vice President of the Asian Pacific Law Students Association, and as the Secretary of the Black Law Students Association. Leyla was formerly the 1L Class Representative to the Black Law Students Association, and is also the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship.
As a 2L, Leyla will provide legal services as a certified student attorney in the University of St. Thomas Federal Commutations Clinic, teaming up with four other students to evaluate and prepare commutation petitions and requests for Presidential pardons on behalf of federal inmates with unjust sentences. Also recently named an Oyera Fellow by the University of St. Thomas, Leyla was chosen to collaborate with other Fellows from St. Thomas’s School of Social Work and Graduate School of Psychology on interdisciplinary training and programming in support of providing comprehensive legal services to vulnerable and marginalized communities.
Prior to law school, Leyla worked as the lead paralegal at a Minneapolis-based immigration law firm. She earned her B.A. from Hamline University.
Leyla joins Larson • King via the Twin Cities Diversity in Practice’s 1L Summer Rotation Clerkship; she will spend a portion of her summer interning in the legal department at the 3M Company.
Twin Cities Diversity in Practice (TCDIP) is a non-profit association of law firms and corporate legal departments. TCDIP’s mission is to support its members as they attract, recruit, advance, and retain attorneys of color in the Twin Cities legal community. The 1L Summer Rotation Clerkship aims to promote the Twin Cities legal community to 1L students of color who are historically underrepresented in the legal profession, and who are interested in exploring a legal career here. During their rotation, summer clerks receive feedback, coaching, and mentoring from top private practice and in-house attorneys. Click here to learn more.
