Employers have until May 7, 2013, to implement the newly-revised Form I-9, just released by the United States Citizen and Immigration Services. Please note that the form only applies to new hires; employers should not make current employees complete a new form if the employee has already properly completed an I-9. Employers should consider using the issuance of the new Form I-9 as an opportunity to conduct comprehensive or refresher course training in Form I-9 implementation.
Form I-9, along with instructions, is available online at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf. For further guidance regarding implementation of Form I-9 or other state and federal compliance issues related to employment, contact a labor & employment attorney at Larson • King.
